My Adventures in Quilting
My name is Denise. I have been quilting for only a few years now and I would classify myself as beginner-intermediate as far as my skills go. I’m still trying to find my aesthetic and what defines me and my quilts. I want people to look at a quilt and say “oh, I know who did that”. I also want to inspire other quilters at all levels. I think we learn from doing and listening. We can learn and grow from each other’ adventures and misfortunes.
I specifically want this blog to be of great value for beginners. A lot of times, we newbies have questions that we think that we should already know the answer to and might be embarrassed to ask a veteran. Well, welcome to a non-judgy venue. Ask your “silly questions” and you will get honest answers. Rest easy, though. One thing to have found is that the quilting community is unlike any other artsy community I have ever witnessed or been a part of. They are INCLUSIVE. Quilters love talking about their projects and love answering questions. They find helping beginners fulfilling and enjoy encouraging up-and-comers. I highly recommend joining a local guild. I was hesitant at first, but since I joined the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, I have grown in my skills as well as my passion for quilting. The people there are so inspiring and friendly. There are so many quilt guilds out there that there is bound to be one nearby you. Just get on the internet and search one out.
So, as you peruse this site, feel free to make comments, recommendations, requests. I am always open to suggestions. I hope you enjoy and find out something new.
